The UK Bees, Wasps and Ants Recording Society (BWARS) is a subscription based volunteer recording society, operating under the aegis of the UK Biological Records Centre (BRC). The Society is affiliated to the British Entomological and Natural History Society (BENHS). Information and images of ant species from across the British Isles can be found here for free, including recorded data about species' nesting, foraging and mating habits.

The UK Wood Ant Steering Group was established in the early 2000’s to advise on and drive the biodiversity action plans (BAP) for Formica exsecta and then, Formica aquilonia, F. lugubris and F. rufa.The ongoing purpose of the group is to bridge gaps between science and policy/practice in order to secure the future of wood ants in the UK.

The National Biodiversity Network (NBN), a registered charity, has been championing the sharing of biological data in the UK since 2000, with the aim of improving the availability of high resolution and high quality data to provide the evidence base for all environmental decision-making in the UK.

AntWeb is the world's largest online database of images, specimen records, and natural history information on ants. It is community driven and open to contribution from anyone with specimen records, natural history comments, or images.
